    • So great!Review to come near release date.***I want this book.I don't care if I haven't read the first book yet.I want this book.I don't care if the first book sucks (which it won't).I want this book.Gimme. NOW.

    • As much as I hate to admit defeat, I think I have to make peace with the fact that Darynda’s Young Adult books simply don’t work for me as well as her adult ones. The Darklight series is consistently mediocre, never outstanding in any way, but never overly disappointing either. It is my loyalty to Darynda and her Charley Davidson series that keeps me from abandoning this trilogy, but the enthusiasm is long gone and I doubt it’s ever coming back.As the last prophet of Arabeth and the only o [...]

    • ***3.5/5 Stars******Spoilers from Death and the Girl Next Door***With sarcasm, intriguing characters, a wonderful pace and some twists and turns, Death, Doom, and Detention made for a pleasant second installment. While I still didn’t care for some of the characters *cough Glitch and the twins cough*, and I was saddened that Jared didn't fill the pages nearly enough, it was still a fun book to read!My vision blurred as hot tears pooled between my lashes. I gazed straight ahead. “I don’t wan [...]

    • I've been trying to finally get to those trilogies and series that I have been putting off, either continuing or finally finishing and this one was high on my list. Yes I realize it is December but better late than never right?Darynda Jones has quickly become one of my most favorite authors. Her books are always riddled with humor, sarcastic witty one liners, memorable characters and a fast moving plot, all attributes a girl like me loves in her reading material so it was no wonder this trilogy [...]

    • DNF at 20% I'm really sorry, I was trying to like it, 'cause I love this author, BUTey're just a bunch of idiots who're running around like headless chickens I just couldn't stand the idiocy of it all!

    • This is not the kind of book you want to pick up if you haven't read Death and the Girl Next Door. But if you have, you are in for a treat! This book starts where the first book left offLorelei learning about her fate, the upcoming war with demons, in the company of her besties, protected by her Static Cling, and in love with the hot Angel of Death. What I like most about this series is Lorelei's relationship with her friends. They are not perfect but they are pure and true. Also applause to Dar [...]

    • I'd say the cover of this one, DEFINITELY makes more sense than the first one. :)I feel ambivalent towards this instalment. Full review to come.Classic "bridge" book. Before I get into my review I just feel the need to point out how the cover for this book makes much MORE sense than the cover for Death and the Girl Next Door. Just sayingNow when I say "bridge" book, I'm referring to the "in-between" instalments of a series, the fillers between the introduction and the climatic conclusion. That's [...]

    • The thing I like most about the Darynda Jones books is the unexpected humor lighting up her stories. She stays away from stale cliches and hits the reader with fresh, snappy dialogue and interesting, unusual characters. Death, Doom and Detention doesn't disappoint. Although a slightly darker book than the first in the series (Death and the Girl Next Door), it continues the entertaining story of Lorelei McAlister, prophet extraordinaire. After finding out in the first book that she is the last pr [...]

    • Darynda Jones should stick to her Graves series. I'm not feeling her YA writing at all. The first book was confusing and frustrating as hell because I was so utterly annoyed at the two stupid boys (Cameron and Jared) butting head and trying to kill each other every 5 freaking minutes. At least they mostly stopped in this book, and their fighting is reduced to glares and a general feeling of antipathy whenever the two cross paths. There's not much more to this book except Lorelei finding out that [...]

    • Quick review:Cover: Cute Rating:PG-13 Thumbs Up:4Overall: It’s a blah for me.Characters: Well DonePlot: More history, no angst and a cliffyPage Turner: Yes Series Cont.? Yes Recommend:MaybeBook Boyfriend: JaredSUMMARY (50 words or less)I can’t say I’m in love with this series. It did hold my interest. But I was disappointed at the lack of romance and laughs, both of which I expected based on the author’s ability and set up. Still, there is enough interest to have me finish the series. For [...]

    • This book just didn't do it for me. As I mentioned in my status update, there was too much confusion, there were questions asked but left unanswered, it got to the point that there were so many questions that were unanswered, that when they were answered, they didn't make sense. There was the best friend Glitch, who has a crush on Brooke, who likes Cameron. (view spoiler)[ But at the ending, when Lor tells him that another girl likes him, he turns around instantly and chases after the other girl. [...]

    • Like, 3.75 stars.Light and fun and pretty good, but at time's it's age showed. I would've loved it so much more about 5 years ago and it would've been an epic story for me in my teens. The most interesting thing about this story is Death and what makes him, him. The charm and storyline follow a Twilight-esk setup, but if the author had explored, in depth, the background and responsibilities of what make him the grim reaper and used a little more creativity in the world building and personalities [...]

    • The author put the current generation of Nephiliam across as stupid, volatile and crazy. Despite those portrayal they bested two of the strongest men on Earth (one of them is an archangel)! which proves that they are actually smart.Again in the end Jared and Cameron though injured manage to easily save the day where Jared jumps off the cliff with Lor and the enemies blindly follow them to their death. Even a dumb person would not be so dumb enough to take the plunge. The plot isn't well thought o [...]

    • Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyDEATH, DOOM AND DETENTION was a good book that isn’t perfect, but still a light, fun read. The underlying premise is different from a lot of paranormal YA I’ve read recently- instead of brooding werewolves or sexy vampires, we’ve got hot angels and terrifying ghosts. And while sometimes the premise verges on ridiculous, we still have some great characters, plenty of teenage angst and obviously, some supernatural drama. If there is one thing Darynda [...]

    • *Genre* YA Paranormal*Rating* 3.5*First Thoughts*Death, Doom and Detention, the second novel in the Darklight series, picks up several months after the end of Death and the Girl Next Door. Obviously, if you haven't read the first book, this book will make absolutely no sense to you. Our heroine. Lorelei McAlister, is finding it harder and harder to understand the prophecy that says she's supposed to stop an impending war between humans and demons. She is totally clueless as to how she is suppose [...]

    • Lorelei and her friends are back. After barely surviving being hit by a truck and meeting the Archangel of Death, Lorelei would love to enjoy some rest and relaxation. However that is not possible when you have a demon living inside of you. There is just one positive to come out of all of this…Jared. Jared is the Archangel. He came to take Lorelei away but instead rescued her and is now her crush. Strange things are happening around town. More then usual. To make matters worse, Jared is missin [...]

    • Welcome back to Riley’s Switch, NM, where Lorelei McAlister would like to just be a normal teenage girl instead of The Prophet who is supposed to save the world by preventing war between humans and demons; and just so happens to have Satan’s second in command kind of lying dormant in her body. Things have gotten a little "fuzzy around the edges" and everyone is acting out of character. The nice guys are being not so nice and the mean girls are being sort of nice. It’s a good thing that Lor [...]

    • Apparently I already read this one too huh, I really need to start keeping better track!- The fact that Lorelei's grandparents are warning Jared to stay away from their granddaughter was ridiculous I mean, really, they're scared of him and treat him reverently, but are ok with ordering him around? It makes no sense just like the fact that he actually obeyed him! (Well, it makes no sense until about the middle of the book when you realize the author only did this for a specific purpose but still! [...]

    • I don't know what to write about this book, to be honest. At points, it made me feel like I might be getting too old for YA books, it was that bland. Actually, bland might be a nice word to describe it. Then again, it might also be because I read the first one at least two years ago, and couldn't remember anything about the characters or the plot, which left me grasping at straws for half the book (where is an info dump when I need it?)After I got myself situated, I realized it was nothing, plotw [...]

    • I Love this book! This is my favorite book by Darynda so far. (And she's already publish like seven in the last two or three years!) If you like to laugh and be pulled along by heart stopping action at the same time, do yourself a favor and look this author up!Lorelie is a cute and tiny red head who makes up for her size with her quirky personality. As you already know from the last book, she is a prophet. In book two, she is barely beginning to crack the surface of what that means. Brooklyn, he [...]

    • “It all started with Death, interfering grandparents and some pissy high school students.Lorelei has some issues to deal with. She has her grandparents controlling her love life. There is this whole save the world thing to deal with. She has high school drama added to with some new pissy attitudes. The love of her life is the Angel of Death and he's no longer interested. She finds out that there is some weird secret society right under her nose. Then she stumbles upon a new skill in her abiliti [...]

    • I have to wait until October of 2013 to find out what happens to Lorelai, or should I say Lorraine, Jared, Cameron, Brooke and Glitch? Oh well, at least it's not next year. I have grown to really care about these characters. My favorite quote from this book: "Life isn't always about what's fair and what's not, pix," Granddad said. It's about doing the right thing, no matter the risks. No matter the consequences." As a seventh grade reading teacher, I can't wait to introduce these books to my stu [...]

    • Great second in the Darklight series. This is a sophisticated YA and has ageless appeal. The setting in Mountainaire, NM (renamed Riley's Switch in the book) is a marvelous small town setting. The story and characters are strengthened in this "in-between" book of the trilogy but it has pace and depth to keep one's attention. Darynda's fabulous humor comes across in witty exchanges between characters and in Lorelei's inner dialogue.

    • The second book in the Darklight series was full to bursting with many surprises! I loved how well the characters were put together and the plot just thickens and got better and better in this book. Its has everything i could possibly want in a book, laugh out loud moments, teary-eyed moments, and parts that just left me breathless and on the edge of my seat. Im looking VERY much forward to the final installment to the series in October! Awesome read!

    • It took me a while to get back into this, since I read book 1 a while ago. I was less confused, but still couldnt warm to Brook for some reason, and Glitch, well he felt like a third wheel the poor bugger. Love Cameron though. More than Jared. And I dont know how Im going to deal with Camerons paring, but Ill just have to get over it :P

    • Thank goodness the gang has a supernatural champion. But what happens when the only being who can save them switches sides midstream? It's words like the above in a blurb that make me go all Voldemort. I don't like to wait. I hate it actually, and when I read something like that I hate it even more so.

    • UHHH. why is the book cover for 'a want so wicked' by Suzanne Young part of this book cover? .-. ITS THE EXACT SAME PERSON IN THE EXACT SAME POSE. ITS THE SAME PICTURE EXCEPT THE COLOURS ARE ALTERED O.O
